Radiometric Assessment of ICESat-2 over Vegetated Surfaces

چکیده

The ice, cloud, and land elevation satellite-2 (ICESat-2) is providing global measurements to the science community. ICESat-2 measures height of Earth’s surface using a photon counting laser altimeter, ATLAS (advanced topographic altimetry system). As system, number reflected photons per shot, or radiometry, function primarily transmitted energy, solar elevation, reflectance, atmospheric scattering attenuation. In this paper, we explore relationship between detected attenuation in atmosphere against observed radiometry for three general forest types, as well day versus night. Through analysis, found that strong beam exceeds pre-launch design cases boreal tropical forests but underestimates predicted over temperate by approximately half photon. weak beams, contrast, exceed all conditions factor two six types. We also observe signal from acquisitions lower than night 10% 40% respectively. This research detection ratio each beam-pair was 4:1 values. presents concept radiometric profiles; these profiles provide path calculating vegetation structure. results study are intended be informative perhaps serve benchmark filtering analysis ATL08 data products vegetated surfaces.

Modeling backscattering variations due to flooding over vegetated surfaces

The objective of this study is to evaluate the possibility to identify floods when soil is covered by vegetation, recognizing differences in backscattering between SAR measurements acquired before and after the event. To this end, the electromagnetic model developed at Tor Vergata University is run for an early stage and a fully grown wheat field, at L, C and X band. Theoretical results show th...

Validation of the Aatsr Land Surface Temperature Product over Inland Waters and Vegetated Surfaces

The Land Surface Temperature (LST) product of AATSR was validated with in situ measurements at two thermally homogeneous sites: Lake Tahoe, CA/NV, USA and a large rice field close to Valencia, Spain. The AATSR LST product is based on the split-window technique using the nadir view of the 11 and 12 μm channels. The algorithm coefficients are provided for 13 different land cover classes plus one ...

Modeling and inversion in thermal infrared remote sensing over vegetated land surfaces

Thermal Infra Red (TIR) Remote sensing allow spatializing various land surface temperatures: ensemble brightness, radiometric and aerodynamic temperatures, soil and vegetation temperatures optionally sunlit and shaded, and canopy temperature profile. These are of interest for monitoring vegetated land surface processes: heat and mass exchanges, soil respiration and vegetation physiological acti...

Evapotranspiration of partially vegetated surfaces from remote sensing

Evapotranspiration (ET) estimates are required for many applications in agricultural and environmental management, from hydrological applications to crop models and irrigation scheduling. Improvement in irrigation water management is achieved when crop water use is accurately quantified in time and space. Conventionally, ET can be measured using Bowen ratio energy balance systems, eddy covarian...
